In India, Data Protection and privacy has been the focus of debates and discussions with legislators and other
stakeholders throughout 2017-18.2018 proved to be an important year in the evolution of privacy rights in the country. The Supreme Court of India passed a landmark judgment in the Puttu Swamy’s case1 upholding the right to privacy as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. The Supreme Court also passed the Judgement declaring Aadhar card is not mandatory unless a citizen voluntarily applies for subsidies offered by the government or consents to parting his own information.
